Overview:
We're recruiting on behalf of a leading industrial automation specialist that designs and delivers bespoke electromechanical and robotic systems to global clients across aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer to take on a hands-on, project-facing role involving concept development, design validation, and full-system testing.
You'll work across the full lifecycle of cutting-edge automation projects, supporting both internal teams and client stakeholders. Ideal for an engineer with strong documentation and design skills, who thrives in an innovative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop system-level concepts for robotic handling, manufacturing, inspection, and assembly solutions
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure optimal technical delivery
Generate and manage technical documentation including operator manuals, system appraisals, requirements, and testing protocols
Support qualification and acceptance testing of complete systems prior to delivery
Assist with customer site visits to assess requirements and support sales proposals
Act as an ambassador for the systems department, promoting engineering best practice internally and externally
Produce 3D concept models and contribute to feasibility studies, process evaluations, and technical design reviews
Essential Skills & Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering design or automation manufacturing
Proven ability to manage full product lifecycle from concept through to commissioning
Strong documentation skills: system requirements, manuals, test reports, etc.
Familiarity with structured systems engineering practices and risk mitigation
Excellent problem-solving abilities with a creative and analytical approach
Working knowledge of various manufacturing processes and design validation methods
Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience with SolidWorks and 3D CAD tools
Background in 2D/3D vision systems, PLCs, or industrial robotics
Familiarity with ISO standards and technical compliance
Programming experience (C#, PLC logic, control systems)
Knowledge of fibre-reinforced composite materials or advanced manufacturing methods
Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Systems, or Software Engineering
